للحد من استهلاك مكعبات الطعام، ودفع المستهلكين لاستخدام التوابل الطبيعية زادت السنغال الضرائب الجمركية على مكعبات الطعام بنسبة 25٪
وعلاوة على البعد الصحي في القرار فمن المتوقع أن يدر على الخزينة السنغالية موارد تصل أكثر من 28 مليون يورو –وفق راديو فرنسا الدولية
ومن المتوقع كذلك أن تتأثر بهذا الإجراء مكعبات الطعام محلية الصنع والمستورة والتي من أشهرها "The" Maggi "و" Jumbo "و" Hadja "و" Nokoss "و" Joker "و" Tem Tem "...".
وتحتوي جميع المكعبات على كميات قليلة من البروتين والسكريات والدهون ، ولكنها تحتوي كميات كبيرة جدًا من الملح
ضعف الحد الأقصى الموصى به يوميًا من منظمة الصحة العالمية والذي لا يتعدى 5 جرام من الملح .
